Bringing Home the LST 325

Filmed and produced by

Gold Crew member Ron Maranto

(Two-volume set - VHS only)

(100% of the proceeds from "Bringing Home the LST 325" go toward the ship's restoration and operation.)

This comprehensive video was filmed by Gold Crew member Ron Maranto.  While filmed by an amateur, it was professionally edited, and it is most definitely "the next best thing to being there!"  It documents the entire voyage, beginning during the restoration efforts in Souda Bay (Crete), and ending with shipboard footage of the grand arrival in Mobile, AL, on Jan. 10, 2001.  This is the best and most comprehensive footage of the work of our crewmembers and their experiences for several long months of hard work.  It's also ideal for showing your family and friends what life is like aboard an operating LST.

"Mosier's Raiders: The Story of LST-325"

Written by LST-325's Official Historian
David Bronson

Rated four stars in this Amazon review (excerpted):

"Well-researched through first-hand accounts, ship's logs and a myriad of other documents, this account brings us as close to the reality as the printed word possibly can.

"I can't help but describe this book as a tour de force fully on a par with John Bradley's 'Flags of Our Fathers' (the story of his father's participation in the Iwo Jima flag-raising).

"Since the ship participated in the invasions of Sicily, Salerno and Normandy (where it made dozens of round trips between England and Utah Beach), it not only provides real-life excitement but it is an absolute must-read."

"LST 325: The Veterans' Voyage"

By John G. Carmichael

This is a newly-published book detailing the procurement of LST 325 from Greece, and the dedicated efforts made by our crew to get her back into operating condition and then sail her back across the wintertime North Atlantic under her own power.

This book, designed for easy reading, is amply illustrated with photos from Greece, and is based almost entirely upon crewmember interviews.

It should be noted that not only do all proceeds go toward the ship's restoration and expenses, but that the Carmichael family is making this as a complete donation to the ship.  They do not even want their printing and shipping costs reimbursed!  Many thanks to them!

"Invitation to Valhalla"

Written by Mike Whicker

Inspired by a true story, Invitation to Valhalla is an award winning “can’t put it down” 388 page novel about spy intrigue at the WW II Evansville LST shipyard.

Erika Lehmann, who is codenamed Lorelei after the siren of Germanic lore, is the English-speaking daughter of Hitler's old comrade and a member of the Führer's inner circle. She is beautiful, athletic, clever -- the epitome of Aryan womanhood -- and the Nazi's top spy. Sent to America , she'll stop at nothing to accomplish her mission, including masquerading as a Jew.

The year is 1942. At the U.S. Naval LST Shipyard in Evansville , Indiana , a Jewish metallurgist named Joseph Mayer is conducting top-secret experiments for the military. Life could not be better for Joe. He loves his job and he is dating a beautiful, young, Jewish woman...

*as with all the books listed here on the Ship’s Store or sold in the LST gift shop in Evansville, proceeds go to the USS LST Memorial.

"A Cornfield Shipyard"

Written by Andrew L. Clark

This book details the history of the shipyard, as well as telling the stories of the ships built there, and the brave crews who sailed them off to war. The book contains extensive text, and is richly illustrated with diagrams and photographs, many never before published. The book is now in its third printing and continues to be popular with former shipyard workers, former LST crewmen, and the families of these men.

The book is a quality hardbound book, measuring 10" by 14 ", with 107 pages. It will be a fine addition to your library and looks beautiful on the coffee table. It is sure to become a collector's item.

"Vessels of the Strand"

Written by Ron Allen Ames

Ron Allen Ames' story of love and war was inspired by original letters and by his fathers memories of duty and battle on an LST during WWII.

Jerhemiah leaves home in discontent as his relationship with Mary Christianson is reduced to only a promise to write. After basic training, he is thrust into the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of World War II, on an old, battered LST. From the first kamikaze attack, to the amphibious invasions, the carnage that he witnesses disillusions his soul. As the war goes on, his hardened heart carries one hope - to see Mary again.

". . . LST sailors, most very young and inexperienced when they went to war, deserve the recognition and honor this story represents."

. . . Robert Jornlin, Captain, LST 325
